Our tour of the beautiful city of Ljubljana will begin at Kongresni Trg, one of the city is most significant squares, rich in history and surrounded by stunning architecture. After a brief introduction to the square past, we will continue to Trg Francoske Revolucije, where we will visit Križanke, a former monastery of the Teutonic Order from the 13th century. Today, this space serves as an important cultural center, hosting numerous concerts and events.
Next, we will visit the Baroque Church of St. Mary, which impresses every visitor with its rich architecture and sacred artwork. Nearby, we will explore the City Museum of Ljubljana, where we will learn about the rich history of our capital and its development through the centuries.
As we make our way toward the old town center, we will admire one of the masterpieces of the world renowned architect Jože Plečnik the National and University Library NUK. This grand building symbolizes the importance of knowledge and culture and stands on the site of what was once the most magnificent city palace, commissioned by Volkh Engelbrecht Turjaški in the 17th century. This palace, known as one of the most luxurious in Ljubljana, was unfortunately demolished after the great earthquake of 1895.
Our stroll will continue through the former Jewish Quarter, once an important center of the Jewish community in Ljubljana. We will then cross the Shoemaker Bridge, which will lead us directly into the old town. Here, we will visit Mestni Trg, where the beautiful Town Hall stands as a symbol of city governance. Also located on the square is the famous Robba Fountain, created by the Venetian sculptor Francesco Robba, which magnificently represents the three Carniolan rivers the Sava, the Ljubljanica, and the Krka.
Our journey will proceed with a visit to the Dragon Bridge, one of Ljubljana’s most recognizable symbols. Adorned with majestic dragon sculptures, the bridge tells the legend of the mythical dragon said to protect the city. We will then stroll through the city market, where we can admire a rich selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other local products.
Next, we will cross the Triple Bridge, another extraordinary architectural creation by Jože Plečnik, which connects the old and new parts of the city. Our tour will conclude at the picturesque Prešeren Square, surrounded by beautiful early 20th-century buildings, with a monument to Slovenia’s greatest poet, France Prešeren, at its heart.
Here, our walk through the capital will come to an end, but you will have the opportunity to further explore Ljubljana or relax in one of the city charming caffes. Thank you for joining us, and we hope you take home wonderful memories of this magnificent city!
